The London African Music Festival (Participants)

Now in it's eleventh year, the London African Music Festival kicks off on Friday 13th September until Sunday 22nd September, 2013.

The Artists performing this year are as follows:

13th to 15th September

Friday,13th September:

 Hideaway in SW16 will be the legendary Osibisa.
Formed in London way back in 1969, this was the first Afro-funk band to achieve international success with their big sound introducing the fusion of African and Western vibes to audiences worldwide.

Richmix in E1 is Guy Schalom and the Baladi Blues Ensemble.
The emergence of Egyptian street music (Baladi) is poised to hit the big time. Baladi blues ambassadors Guy Schalom and Sheik Taha will be taking it one step further with their creative hybrid sounds.

The Vortex Jazz Club hosts Malick Pathe Sow and Bao Sissoko.
This duo creates a heart-warming and magical performance where the soft sounds of African Harps and lutes weave together and blend naturally with the warm and welcoming voice of Sow. together they create music that is timeless and totally immersing.

Upstairs at the Ritzy in Brixton SW2 will be hosting Family Atlantica.
This is a heady blend of Cuban rumba, Venezuelan tambor and tonada, Ghanaian highlife, Ethiopian blues and calypso together with a multitude of styles.

Hackney Attic E8 is where Modou Toure will be performing.
His songs in Wolof, Mandinko, Sonenike, Portuguese, Creole, French and English, reflect his experiences of love, destiny, origins and identity. He will be performing with his regular band Tilo (Sun).

Jacobean Mansion House SE7, Acoustic Africa with Mosi Conde.
African folk music in an ideal setting with guinea's kora master Mosi Conde, Uganda's ACD Arts Adungu Players, Ghana's balafon master and veteran guitarist Alfred Bannerman


Saturday, 14th September:

The Vortex Jazz Club N16 hosts Adjoa.
Her gorgeous songs and the infectious jazz grooves from her band create music with great style and confidence.

Richmix E1 is veteran musician Orlando Julius.
Veteran Nigerian music icon Orlando Julius will be performing with London based Heliocentrics as they play exclusive tracks from his new album which will soon be out on Strut Records.

New Empowering Church E8 is M3NSA.
M3NSA suprised many when he moved from rapping rhymes into romantic ballads. Songs like Fanti Love song from the album Mango Street.




Sunday 15th September:

The Jazz Cafe Camden NW1 will host Akim El Sikameya.
Arabic musical language driven by flamenco guitar will transport listeners across the Mediterranean to Marseille, France with a virtuoso performance that is strong, refined and striking.

The Forge NW1, Miryam Solomon and Elmi Ali.
Fusing acoustic roots styles and an urban sound, Miryam Solomon's soulful voice will melt your heart in an instant. Somalian Poet Elmi Ali will open with poetry and word play defending and promoting free expression, the removal of barriers in literature.

Upstairs at the Ritzy SW2 will be featuring Namvula.
Offering her original perspective on African Music, Namvula draws heavily on her Zambian heritage as well as referencing her Scottish roots. the sounds of southern Africa are brought alive on stage with a true blend of truly global sounds.

The Hackney Picturehouse will be showcasing a special African Film Live Score with DAT and Atongo Zimba.
